Yesterday, I went to visit the family home and birthplace of Sir Isaac Newton. One of the greatest scientists the world has known, Newton’s achievements include describing universal gravitation, the three laws of motion, conservation of momentum and angular momentum, inventing the reflecting telescope, developing a theory of colour, formulating an empirical law [...]

I’ve been doing some gardening recently. I converted a patch of grass into a garden bed a while back. The vegetables have been growing nicely.

We’ve eaten lettuce out of the garden several times now. River decided we should put the marigold pot in the garden instead of on the wall by the [...]

The kids had their grading for Tae Kwon Do yesterday. Sage was going for her yellow tag, which is the next belt after the initial white belt.

River is going for her green tag, the step after yellow belt.

Here is a video of River doing her form called Dan-Gun Tul, which is named after [...]

I discovered this after [...]

I went for a walk this morning from Foremarke school through Heath Wood after dropping off the kids.

There were some beautiful horse chestnut trees blooming along the path. Horse chestnuts are used to play a game called conkers. I found this nice description of the game.
The kids have had an interesting week; Sage [...]

Molly went to the first meeting of the South Derbyshire Knitting Group that she helped to organized through Ravelry. There were nine knitters there, including her and River, and apparently it went off well. They are planning to meet bi-monthly in the future. Sage was inspired to take up finger-knitting with a [...]

One of my favorite things about spring is all the wildflowers that burst into bloom before the canopy of leaves shades the forest floor.
I was intrigued by the description of Swithland Wood in a guide to the National Forest. Swithland Wood is designated an “Ancient Woodland”, meaning that it has been continuously wooded [...]
