Capoeira can be described as a conversation or a dialogue between two people, asking questions and giving answers. Most of the time, like a good conversation, it flows back and forth in a complimentary way, but there is another important aspect known as malicia. Players often try to trick and outwit each other, looking for mischievous ways to trip the other person up while avoiding having the same happen to them. Here are some of my favorite videos from the recent Batizado in Nottingham to give a flavor of capoeira.

This video features Contra-Mestre Papa-Leguas, who is the head of the Nottingham Cordao de Ouro group, playing Professor Boneco who is based in Brighton. You might notice me watching from the back row. Watch out for the malicia here:
