Sage and I went to Calke Abbey this afternoon to see the newborn lambs.

Lamb1

They were so cute! The lambs and their mothers are brought to these small pens for the first 24 hours so ensure that they are getting enough milk. They are also given some medical care before being moved to a big tent where they are monitored for several more days before going out into the field again.

Sage wants to get a pet lamb.

The ewes looked like they’d not like anything to get too close to their babies.

This lamb was climbing on top of it’s mummy. It reminded me of some kids I know.

Here they’ve been moved inside the big marquee tent.

River decided to stay with Molly, who was home doing long overdue administrivia, to decorate the house for her birthday. I imagine you’ll probably see some festive pictures before the weekend is over.

  1. Hi! I loved seeing all of the sheep–I remember how many there were when we visited Calke Abbey. I think I’d like a lamb for a pet too! River–I’m looking forward to seeing the pictures of your birthday festivities! It was fun to talk with you this morning, and the kids all liked singing to you! Love, Grana P.S. Whose voices are we hearing in the video?

  2. Great idea Sage. It would be nice to own a lamb. (a good wooler I hope)

  3. We also had the idea to own a sheep and have a new lamb each spring. Then we could get more wool!
