We went walking at Kedleston Hall today. The house is closed for the winter; I imagine it is prohibitively expense to heat these huge old mansions. The grounds are very beautiful and there are several nice walking routes. There are sheep in the fields and some nice water features. The brochure we picked up claims there is a maze somewhere, but we weren’t able to find it.

We could see some bulbs beginning to poke up through the leaf litter. We’re planning to go back in the spring sometime since it promises to be spectacular. The daffodils are starting to peek through in our garden as well. It has been a bit warmer recently, but the lack of daylight makes it very clear that it is still winter here.

This is the front of the house. We ate a nice lunch in the restaurant here. The food was tasty, but the highlight was discovering the botanically brewed Fentiman’s ginger beer. They make a dandelion burdock and lemonade that I’m also interested in trying!
Here is the hall from the top of the hill:

Hi Andy,
Remember us? We met you in Mass through the homeschooling scene and then headed off to Colorado for a bit and now we’ve ended up in California. Anyway Petra directed me to your blog and it’s been fun to see what you’re all up to. I’m quite a blogger these days too, mostly about knitting but we do have a family blog, Maya has her own blog and David has his too. I saw that you’re doing Capoeria…my kids started it last year and totally fell in love with it…haven’t done it myself but may well try it sometime.
How long are you in England for?
I’ll stop by again…say hi to the family from us!

Hi everybody! Do you suppose that the daffodils might be blooming by the end of February? I would love to see them, but I really don’t care because I actually just want to see you! Love, Grana
