We met some friends and co-workers of Molly in Stratford-upon-Avon for lunch on New Year’s Eve. We enjoyed a meal in a terrific pub called the Bell just outside of the Bard’s hometown. After lunch, we drove into town to try some sightseeing. We finally managed a parking spot outside of the church where Shakespeare was buried.

Apparently, it was fairly common to curse your gravesite so that no one would move you out of the way to make room for someone else.

There were a lot of other places we’d have liked to have visited there, but we decided they’d have to wait until another time.

Molly and I did manage to stay up until midnight, but the sound of Big Ben ringing in the new year over the BBC was bittersweet. It was a bit sad celebrating without friends and family.

I can’t ever remember a year like 2007. The roller coaster of life has brought some unfathomable nadirs and some phenomenal peaks. Sometimes it seems like the climbing the peaks creates the potential energy to reach the low ground and hitting rock bottom provides an opportunity to climb to the next zenith. The yin and the yang, maybe.

It seems like everything during the past 12 months has been more intense than usual.  I never could have predicted where I am now a year ago.  Who knows what the coming year will bring?
