Gail arrived yesterday in Heathrow. We picked her up and brought her directly to a pub for the full English experience.
Her flight went well; she got an entire row of seats to herself and was able to stretch out and get some sleep. We are all very happy to see her!
This morning the [...]
I found some videos of my capoeira instructor, Mascote, on youtube. He’s quite talented! I’ve really been enjoying capoeira recently. It’s a great combination of fun and challenge. I’ve been asking my body to do all sorts of things that I might suspect would be impossible.
We’ve been enjoying the birdfeeder in the back garden. It’s nice to sit on the couch and watch them flit back and forth between the branches, the hedge, and the feeder. The cats love sitting in that window, too. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) organized a nationwide birdwatching event [...]
We went rock climbing at the Nottingham Climbing Centre on Wednesday. It was so much fun! The kids climbed with a group of kids and an instructor. They started out with bouldering, did some belaying, and got lowered from a bridge by a rope. They both said their favorite part was [...]

I recently finished redesigning a website for Jonas Kron, a friend and attorney specializing in environment and social responsibility law. You can check it out at kronlaw.com. I haven’t done that much web design work recently, but I enjoyed working on this project.
It has been raining quite a bit here recently. I got myself a pair of wellingtons yesterday, so we’re finally fully equipped for the mud season here.
Actually, I think it might be muddy here all the time. The lack of daylight is the hardest thing about winter here. I can’t really complain [...]
We got a wonderful package in the mail yesterday.
The girls’ aunt Deana made these beautiful aprons. The fabric is decorated with a pattern of little gnomes and toadstools. I can’t really find the words to describe these wonderful creations. The necessary copious superlatives escape me. Amazing work, Deana!
River was so [...]
We went to Sherwood Forest yesterday, erstwhile home of Robin Hood and his band of merry men.
I’ve yet to see what I would consider a “true forest” in England, and it turns out that Sherwood is no exception. I’ve always thought a forest to be “a large area covered chiefly with trees [...]
I’m bringing my car in to be worked on tomorrow. It had a problem in December with not having sufficient power and the coil assembly was replaced. The problem was not entirely resolved and has recently gotten worse again. The other day, I think I managed 0 to 60 in about 5 [...]
