One of the most enjoyable things in Barcelona was roaming the streets in the old downtown area. La Rambla has been called the most beautiful street in the world.

We enjoyed watching the mimes perform, smelling the sweet scents from the flower stands, and generally watching the world pass by.
Here’s a sampling of the mimes we saw:




Many of the streets in the old part of town were closed to traffic other than pedestrians. There are lots of fashionable shops in this part of the city. It was buzzing with energy.

But there were plenty of little quiet streets too.
Another spot we spent a lot of time was in the Placa de l’Angel, sitting outside the contemporary art museum watching the skateboarders, though you can’t make them out in this picture. This plaza was just a block away from the apartment where we stayed.
