I’ve wanted to go to Barcelona for a long time, but one of the reasons we decided to make the trip now was that Larkin is at University in Barcelona for the semester. We managed to meet at the beach just a few minutes walk from where she lives in Barceloneta.

Sackett Reunion

It sounds like she is getting a lot out of her experience here.  She was a bit disappointed with her accommodations; she had originally planned a homestay, but ended up in a dorm with other American students.  I went out one night with her and some of her friends to a jazz club where one of her fellow students was singing.  I enjoyed the music, but it was basically impossible to converse.  I’ve always enjoyed Larkin’s company, and unsurprisingly, it was wonderful to see her half-way around the world.

It was nice to play in the sand and the kids also enjoyed climbing on this giant spiderweb climbing structure. We came back and spent most of another day here later in the week.

The water was very warm, at least compared to the north Atlantic. I enjoyed swimming and River and I spent some time playing in the waves and doing handstands and front handsprings in the sand. Okay, I didn’t actually do any front handsprings, but I watched. Sage spent a lot of time building cities. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a picture of the large castle that we all collaborated on.

Apparently, the beaches in Barceloneta were basically created at great expense for the Olympics. We did notice, though, that there were pictures of the beaches in some of Picasso’s paintings. At any rate, we certainly appreciated our time here!
