We did the third section of the M&M trail on Friday. Here are our intrepid hikers set to go with their walking sticks:

trillium.jpgThe spring wildflowers have really started to bloom. The purple trilliums were especially beautiful. We noticed several that looked to have been munched off just below the leaf whorl.

We found a nice stream where the kids promptly removed their shoes and splashed around for a while. The trail has been relocated to skirt around a quarry and it followed some wetlands along the eastern side of the ridge. There were quite a few birds out, including a couple of black-and-white warblers and a flock of yellow-rumped warblers.

There is quite a spectacular lookout point from the top of the quarry, though the landscape within the quarry is a little reminiscent of Mordor.

The trout lillies, wood anemones, and spice bush were also displaying beautiful blossoms. You can see the rest of the pictures in the photo gallery, though it requires registration at this point.
